The project's main starting point is the "enveloping wall" structure, axial layout, and integrity of proportions of the Ishak Pasha Palace. The historical plan scheme has been reinterpreted with a modern geometric language and optimized with regard to the qibla orientation. Bearing traces of classic Ottoman examples such as the Şemsi Pasha Complex, the design builds the relationship between the courtyard and the interior space upon this historical continuity.
The structure, with its natural stone texture, harmonizes with Ağrı’s harsh climate and local architectural character. The light-colored stone cladding used on the facade emphasizes the monumentality of the building, while the modern minaret design and geometric voids (perforations) on the facade give the structure lightness and transparency. The Kufic art examples applied to the facade integrate traditional decorative art into modern architecture.

Inside, circular light bands and ceiling openings, a modern interpretation of the dome form, add depth and a spiritual atmosphere to the space. Thanks to the “Daylight Roof Openings,” natural light is allowed into the interior in a controlled manner, creating dramatic shadow play on the stone walls. Geometric patterned windows, referencing traditional stained glass art, fill the interior with colorful and peaceful light.
The ground floor plan is designed as a complex encompassing the main prayer area (mosque), the last congregation area, the library, classrooms, and social areas. The women’s section and its entrances are meticulously separated, considering both privacy and accessibility. The landscape design, with its preserved green spaces and water features in the inner courtyards, strengthens the building’s connection with its surroundings, offering visitors a serene public space.

This project presents a vision of a modern place of worship in Ağrı that carries the city’s historical heritage but looks towards the future, where aesthetics and function are in harmony.
